Salvaging, Identification advice
Hey,
Just started playing guild wars on prophecies (just past pre-searing now). I have noticed salvage kits and identification kits, and had a little play around with them on some of my loot. I now have a few different crafting materials, the iron ingots I used for armour, but I am not sure what to do with the rest? Sell to merchant? Not sure what items I should salvage, and which ones I should just sell straight to the merchant. Also, should I identify all unidentified items? Thanks in advance |

Early in the game, I'd just identify anything that's not white, but later in the game you can get a significant increase in a white item's selling value by IDing them.
Most crafting material is fairly obvious, ie - salvage a sword, get iron, salvage a bow, get wood, etc. This early in the game, I wouldn't worry too much about hoarding crafting materials unless you have something specific in mind you want, like new armor as you said. The rest you can just dump in your Storage until you need it for something else, there's a Materials tab if you pay the extra 50g for it. |

You should put crafting materials you get from salvaging in your Xunlai Chest. As trickfred said, there's a special materials tab you get for 50g. You can put 250 of each material in there.
Identify all unidentified items to get mods, unlocks, merchant value increase. You can salvage mods from weapons (and runes from armor) with an expert salvage kit or higher. Not all mods and runes are worth salvaging though. |

Thanks for the advice, didn't even notice the Xunlai Chests until now I will identify all I find before selling.
The whites I am picking up, should I go ahead and salvage them all and keep them in the materials tab? Or sell to the merchant? Not sure what is more important, the money or the crafting materials? |

This early in the game, I'd say the gold. Once you come across a better armor crafter you can always hunt around for more stuff to salvage (getting more XP and gold in the process), or even buy the materials outright from the materials trader, but that's your call. Early armor sets don't require a lot of materials anyways, don't sweat it too much.

Salvage the items that say 'Highly Salvageable' once ID'd and save materials till you get a stack (250) then sell for a few K!
Not so much golds tho, don't wanna salvage a gold thats worth a lot! Last edited by Zebideedee; Dec 14, 2009 at 02:54 AM // 02:54.. |

Speaking of materials, if you save one stack - 250 of them, that is - you can either save it for personal use, or you should check out the material trader's prices. For example, a stack of feathers will easily sell for over 8k. I tend to packrat, so I stash materials a lot, and they've come in handy when I need easy cash.
